I've uploaded some images I took during my
employment at the Dickens Center
to give you some idea of the work that went into
the center and perhaps encourage you to go
and experience it for yourselves first hand.
.
I worked
as a carpenter.
on the Dickens Center project, Chatham Dockyard
in the summer of 2007.
The on site artists worked with polystyrene and plaster to create some amazing spaces.
We were given a great deal of freedom to experiment with a huge empty space and build a Victorian town,
or at least a semblance of one.
It was employment of the rarest kind. Creative, artistic and well paid.
I was permitted to distress wood in all manner of inventive ways and also to add little nuances and details that maybe only I will ever be aware of.
Long winding corridors will lead you to a host of amazing locations. Cinema, boat ride, haunted
house to name but a few.
The buildings were constructed using plaster cast brickwork sections over a plywood body which was in turn fixed to wooden or steel frames.
Detail was then added by teams of plasterers.
Go on.
Its got to be worth a day out!
